Q: What type of books did you read as a child?
A: The two that come to mind are the Box Cart Kids, and My Side of the Mountain. Those are the ones that stick out.
Q: How do you see the male culture represented in those books?
A: They are white, poor box cart kids. There is four of them; siblings.
Q: If you did not see the male culture in those books what other cultures did you notice?
A: Uhm, I believe that one part in the Box Cart Kids; the kids are taken in by a rich family, I do believe so. In My Side of the Mountain, the main character lived on a mountain, so.
Q: How do you think the male culture is represented in literature?
A: Current? I want to say diversity is something of the norm now, but It's the gratification.
Q: How did reading male dominant books help influence your own culture identity?
A: Uhm, it just gives you a different perspective, or finding what types of things you are interested in and it goes from different passages; like fantasy to something more intellectual.
Q: Did you read about characters that related to you?
A: Another book that comes to mind is about a kid that moved to a new school and had a hard time, but then he became a very well rounded athlete.
Q: Did these characters share the same beliefs, values, and religions you share?
A: I don't think necessarily that those types of books are relevant to this question.
Q: Did these characters look and act like you?
A: Crash did possibly, from the football book; Sorry I needed to elaborate.
Q: Did you ever read books with cultures outside of your own?
A: I don't think so. I didn't have an extremely open mind when I was younger, at that age.
Q: Do you prefer to read books about your own cultural group?
A: No, absolutely not. I like reading to escape, not to relive life.
Q: Did you ever notice while reading other culture, or even your own culture, when you read as a child?
A: Yeah, definitely the Crash character, it just came to mind. That book definitely. It just reminded me of Onsted; reading it.
Q: When you watch TV what type of films do you prefer?
A: Fantasy!
Q: When you play video games, what type of game situations do you prefer?
A: Fantasy. I like to kill other players online; Human people not fake people, and i like to ruin their day.
Q: When you watch TV and play video games do you think of the culture of the media?
A: I don't think it is really relative in those kind of things. I mean essentially if you are talking about first person shooters, and blowing and killing games that are popular now. That ties into violence. No one is walking around with bows and swords these days.
